From jeni at charlesvillage.org Mon Feb 6 19:13:46 2006 From: jeni at charlesvillage.org (Jeni Spevak) Date: Mon, 6 Feb 2006 19:13:46 -0500 Subject: [CV Block Leaders] Light bulbs and timesheets! Message-ID: <200602061912968.SM01048@OUTREACH> Hi everybody, I would like to know where everyone is on their light bulb distribution. I know a number of you took one or two boxes at the last meeting. Please let me know how many bulbs have been distributed, and be sure to write which houses received them on the sheets I provided. JHU needs all of that info, and I need to report where we are in the distribution process. If you have hours to report please let me know as well. Thanks everyone! Emil is working on the message board, and I will let you all know when that is up and running. I plan to schedule another meeting for early next month and I'll let you know when it will be. In the meantime, I hope that you have been able to get in touch with the residents that have responded to the surveys. Making contact with these folks will be really helpful for the projects we will be doing in the spring. I'm thinking that clean-up days are the most needed and easiest to organize/participate in. We can go from there, but let's plan on at least one clean-up day this spring or summer, beyond the Mayor's (in which I encourage particpation). I hope all is well with each of you. :) Jeni Spevak Block Leader Coordinator Charles Village Community Benefits District 2301 N Charles St - Baltimore, MD 21218 410-235-4411 x16 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Charles St., right next door to the CVCBD. The man was abducted in a parking garage while loading computers into his car. There have also been two muggings in the 2800-2900 block area of N Calvert St. Be careful out there! I will paste an article about these crimes to the bottom of this email. Now the good news! I know a number of you have been interested in issues with trees. The city is hosting a number of trainings to become Neighborhood Tree Stewards at the Cylburn Arboretum. This is a great opportunity for you to learn more about taking care of the trees on your block and inspire your neighbors to help. If anyone wants flyers on this I can give them to you. Here's the info: Wed., March 1 - Tree Basics Sat., March 4 - Pruning, ID Wed., March 8 - ID, Safety Wed., March 15 - Planting Wed., March 22 - Design, Care, Community Outreach Sat., March 25 - Plant a Tree All Wednesday sessions are from 6p-8:30p All Saturday sessions are outdoor hands-on trainings from 10a-12:30p All sessions will be held at: Cylburn Arboretum 4915 Greenspring Ave. Jeni Spevak Block Leader Coordinator Charles Village Community Benefits District 2301 N Charles St - Baltimore, MD 21218 410-235-4411 x16 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------ Man escapes after gunpoint carjacking February 3, 2006 An employee of Catholic Charities was abducted at gunpoint while loading computer equipment into his car in Baltimore's Charles Village neighborhood about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and later forced into its trunk by two carjackers, city police said yesterday. The victim, whose name was not divulged, escaped unhurt about 90 minutes later, police said. About an hour earlier, another man was accosted at gunpoint by two robbers who took $25 and his keys while he was in his car behind his home in the 2800 block of N. Calvert St., seven blocks away, police said. The abduction victim told detectives he was approached by two men in the 2300 block of N. Charles St., where the nonprofit has an office, threatened with a black semiautomatic handgun and forced to climb into the back seat of his green 1997 Toyota Avalon. He was driven to the Mount Pleasant Golf Course in Northeast Baltimore, where the men ordered him into the trunk and drove around for a short time, police said. About 1 p.m., the car stopped and the victim opened the trunk, escaped and called police. Police found the car shortly after 5 p.m. in the 1400 block of Carswell St. in Northeast Baltimore. [Gus G. Message-ID: <200602101458312.SM01048@OUTREACH> Hi everybody, So with the snow coming this weekend, a lot of people are going to finally emerge from their homes and spend some time in their front yards, shoveling their sidewalks. This will be a great opportunity for you to get out and talk with your neighbors! Let them know you've gotten their surveys (or not!) and talk with them about what their responses were. You've all gotten an Excel spreadsheet mapping out survey results on your block, as well as copies of the surveys themselves. Talk to your neighbors about their survey responses, or just about how they feel about living on the block in general. Some people might not respond on paper, but can be very chatty when talking face to face. And be sure to keep track of your time! Start brainstorming about what kinds of activities you want to see on your block in the spring. A lot of survey respondents marked "Beautification Projects" as something they want to do. This is a pretty broad topic. Talk with your neighbors to get a sense of what that means to them, so that we can give the people what they want! And, of course, please continue to distribute as many light bulbs as you can between now and the end of Febrary. Thank you all so much for your effort and your time. I'm really looking forward to working with all of you on your block projects this spring and summer. Enjoy the snow this weekend! I'll see you all soon, Jeni Spevak Block Leader Coordinator Charles Village Community Benefits District 2301 N Charles St - Baltimore, MD 21218 410-235-4411 x16 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... This is an Old Goucher Association event, not a CVCBD event. Peter Duvall (of the CVCBD and the OG Assn) has volunteered to work on the event, but can not do it alone. Peter needs help with the following tasks: Calling homeowners to recruit their homes into the tour Working with homeowners once they are recruited Recruiting volunteers for the day of the tour (has traditionally been an easy task) If you or anyone you know wants to help out, please contact Peter Duvall at pwduvall at yahoo.com or 410-235-4411 ext 14. The work mainly consists of making phone calls, and can be done in the evening. Thank you for your help!
