With the time change and night coming earlier and earlier it is important for safety reasons to make sure that all of our street lights are up and running. The safety team has asked me to pass on this message to you. If you happen to notice that there is a non- functioning street light in your neighborhood please call 311 and report it, as well as call us here at the CVCBD so that we can also track and make sure these street lights are taken care of. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History & Culture The Baltimore Immigration Summit is an annual one-day event, co-sponsored by Towson University and the Baltimore City Mayor's Office, which brings together academics, service providers, activists, community leaders, and others working with and for immigrants in our region. Baltimore is an area with a growing and diverse immigrant population, as well as local government that views immigrants as an important part of the city's resurgence. The theme of this year's Summit is "Building Bridges." The topic of immigration is often approached from a divisive, "us vs. them" perspective. Yet immigrants' lives personify the concept of building bridges, as they traverse national boundaries, and continue to make connections between their native and adopted cultures. Bridges are needed among immigrant groups, as well as between immigrants and the native-born. In the city of Baltimore and elsewhere, there is particular concern about building bridges between immigrants and African Americans, as too often the two groups are pitted against each other. In addition, the Summit's mission is to build bridges between and among those in the academic, non-profit, governmental, and activist communities. The website for this and additional information is: http://cityservices.baltimorecity.gov/dpw/jonesfalls/pd.html Kelly: As I mentioned over the phone the BMA graciously granted the residents of the Charles Village, Peabody Heights and Remington, along the 27th street corridor a Parking Permit for 40 spots. I am attaching a notice, along with a copy of the permit that will be posted on the SC800R website next week. I will attempt to make this parking permit available for printing so the area residents can fill the information out at home, but can make no promises. I want to also express a special appreciation to Mr. Alan Dirican, Deputy Director of Operations & Capital Planning for the BMA, for his help in developing this permit and then his exceptional responsiveness in assisting us to expedite the issuance of this permit. Message-ID: <200611171609593.SM01092@OUTREACH> Hello Block leaders, I am heading to my parents house for Thanksgiving so I will be out of the office next week. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to call here and talk with the rest of the staff. Bob Brinkman in particular said he would help out with anything you guys need, he's extension 13. I am currently working on a Block Leader mingle meet and greet. I was thinking the first or second weekend in December probably between 3 and 5 on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. I almost have a place in Charles Village set and I will let you all know when it is confirmed! Date suggestions are welcome. I also wanted to know what you all thought about the idea of having a holiday decorating contest in the neighborhood? Let me know and we can get started on it! FYI Tomorrow in Harwood there is the book bundle delivery with Greater Homewood. They would love some volunteers to come help deliver the books, they have over 400 bundles this year! They are meeting at Barclay School at 10:00 am Saturday morning and will be distributing around Harwood to about 12 noon. Reminder, please send me your completed surveys! I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!
