Message-ID: <009501c7aec1$8802bb30$98083190$@org> Hello Block Leaders, At last weeks meeting we had two speakers come and present. The first was officer Doug Gibson who spoke about different ways that we could become more active in keeping our neighborhood safe. Things like starting a walkers group. There are several different kinds of groups you can have, like a dog walkers group, a mom's with strollers group, a running group, or just people walking together. These groups look out for people and things that look suspicious and call 911 or look for other things that should be reported to 311, like street lights that are out. If you would like more information on what you can do with a group or as a group I have some hand outs that are very helpful. Officer Gibson also handed out sign up sheets for crime watch numbers. If you have any completed forms you can either mail them to me or directly to the northern district. If you don't have a form I can get one for you. What a crime watch number does is allow you to call 911 to report an problem anonymously, the police officer will not come to your house when they arrive to take care of the problem. I would encourage everyone to get a number! Then Brenda Harris, from Community Mediation on Greenmount, ran a short work shop talking about how different people react in conflict and then spoke about the services that the mediation program offers. In case anyone would like to know; they do mediations only for willing parties. You can recommend people to them, and you can refer people to them, but they will only work with people that are all willing to be there. The mediation sessions do not have to be just between two people, the max number of people is somewhere around 10 to 15. If you are interested, they are a great resource and here is some contact information 3333 Greenmount Ave Baltimore, MD 21218 410-467-9165 PLEASE If everyone could write up a quick note (it doesn't have to be perfectly accurate) of the number of hours they have spent doing community service through out the year I would be sooooo happy. You can include any passing out of fliers, talking with your neighbors in person or on the phone, planning or participating in any activities, attending community meetings etc. It is really important to keep track of these hours so that we can show funders, and show in our reports the progress we are making in our community building efforts. You can just email it to me! I also handed out the new and improved block leader packets- please keep these as a reference guide to help your neighbors and yourself with any issues that come up. Also available are the new welcome to the neighborhood packets. If you would like some please let me know, or you can stop by the office and pick some up. If you have any other questions or comments please call me or email me.
